Size directly determines whether a QR code is scannable in the real world. For print — business cards, flyers, packaging, table menus — the safe floor is 2.5 × 2.5 cm; below that, most phone cameras cannot distinguish the individual modules clearly. For wall-mounted signs or anything viewed from arm's length or further, go bigger than you think necessary — a code that looks large on your screen often feels small once printed on A3 paper. For digital-only use — PDFs, email footers, websites — export at 300 × 300 px minimum so the image stays sharp if someone downloads and reprints it. The export slider goes up to 2000 px, which is sufficient for even large-format print work.

Error correction is a built-in redundancy system based on Reed-Solomon codes. It reserves a portion of the QR code's data modules as recovery data, so the code still scans even if part of it is obscured, scratched, or dirty. There are four levels: L (Low) recovers up to 7% damage — use this when you want the smallest, densest code possible and the surface will stay clean. M (Medium) recovers up to 15% and is the default for most everyday uses. Q (Quartile) recovers up to 25% — a solid choice for anything going on physical products that may get handled. H (High) recovers up to 30% and is the right choice whenever you embed a logo (which physically covers part of the data region) or print on outdoor surfaces that will be exposed to wear. The trade-off is that higher correction creates a denser grid, which makes the code slightly more complex to scan — though this is rarely noticeable in practice.

After generating, use your phone's native camera app to scan the preview on screen — if it resolves correctly, the encoding is valid. However, a screen test alone is not sufficient before printing. Once you have a physical copy, scan it under different lighting conditions: good light, dim light, and at an angle of at least 30 degrees. Test on both an Android device and an iPhone, since their camera algorithms handle low contrast and small codes differently. If the code fails on one platform, the most common causes are insufficient contrast between the foreground and background, a logo that covers too much of the data area, or a size that is too small for the scanning distance. Fix any of those in the tool and regenerate before sending to print.

No — once a static QR code is generated, the data encoded inside it is permanent. The image itself is the code; there is no server or database entry behind it that can be updated. If you need to change the destination, you would need to generate a new QR code and replace any printed copies. This is why it is important to point your QR code at a URL you own and control long-term, rather than a temporary campaign page that might be taken down. If your use case genuinely requires the ability to change the destination after printing — for example, a menu that updates seasonally or a campaign landing page — you would need a dynamic QR code service, which stores a redirect URL on a server that you can edit. Dynamic codes are a separate category of product and typically require a paid subscription with a third-party provider.
